As you explore the expansive setting of Teyvat, you set out on an adventure to find answers from the gods of elements known as The Seven. You'll also be able to recruit and gain a host of different playable characters and try out a variety of different skills. The free adventure has plenty to offer. It only launched in March , but Call of Duty: Warzone is easily the biggest battle royale game right now, already surpassing 30 million players in just over a month since release.
It's easy to see why. Not only is it completely free, but Infinity Ward's epic shooter allows up to players per match, supports full crossplay between console and PC, is already integrated with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare , and is thus the most polished and fine-tuned battle royale experience yet. That, in addition to the immeasurably innovative Ping system, makes Apex Legends worth the added megabytes to your PS4 hard drive, regardless of whether you've even made a passing glance at Fortnite by this point. You might have missed out on Life is Strange and its prequel Life is Strange: Before the Storm till now, claiming "insignificant funds" as an excuse to miss out on Dontnod's excellent interactive adventures, but with The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit , there's nowhere left to hide.
A totally free, bite-size chunk of Life is Strange gameplay, as well as a precursor to the first game's official sequel, this two hour trip inside the mind of endearing seven year old Chris is a delight from beginning to end. It's not the longest game in the world, but then again, you won't have to pay a thing, and not a single minute spent with the imaginative youngster is wasted when he's such an empathetic and loveable presence.
It's the perfect gateway drug to the wonderful world of Arcadia Bay. Part third-person action game, part competitive shooter, part RPG, part co-operative PvP team game, Smite takes the loose spirit of the MOBA and turns the genre in an entirely more immediate direction.
Not that this is just about instinctive twitch play. The free-to-play model is pretty damn pleasant, too. The players experience the game at the same time but experience events within it differently; one may be in a cut scene while the other watches on or moves around nearby, one may drive a car while the other shoots from the back and so on. Otherwise it behaves like a standard third-person action shooter. It handles well, there are a few moments of clumsiness that arise when relying on another player and sometimes when the screen is cut in half with the couch co-op, it can obscure a portion of your vision.
It brings back distinct memories of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons by the same developers, some actions can only be accomplished with teamwork and co-operation. The story was somewhat lacklustre but I felt more like the friends we made along the way was the real story; as cheesy as that sounds. Leo and Vincent both have their own lives that they are trying to get back to and it adds a real weight to what they are doing.
There are a lot of story and gameplay choices that come at the player throughout the game but what I really liked was that the game never makes you feel like there is a right or wrong choice, no one character is the main character; they both are. That's not as a daft as it sounds to begin with - certainly, the open sequence and first major event is playable on your own with two controllers, but soon after it becomes unmanageable. In short, you need to get a friend.
Only one player needs to buy the full version of A Way Out. That player can then invite another player to play for free. The second player will need to download the free trial and then both can play the game together. The player who owns the game can invite a player with the Free Trial to join in any of the chapters he or she has unlocked.
So if you want to invite someone to Chapter 3 you can, without them having played through the previous chapters. This also means you can play to a certain point with one player, play further with another player, and then go back to the earlier point with the first player and pick up where you left off.
You cannot play a chapter unless the owner of the full game has reached that section. Chapters in A Way Out are usually short, so saving progress happens often, allowing you to dip in and out with different players as required. There are two endings in A Way Out , each geared towards one of the two main characters and players. The ending you get depends on the actions you choose during the final chapter of the game, Conflict.
As this happens right at the end of the game, if you want to see both endings you can just reload your most recent save.
